K Custom Session

I wanted to share that I picked up a new 16" Zildjian K Custom Session crash last week and REALLY love it. I was very impressed with the 18" too. Has anyone else gotten into these? These are the new ones developed with Gadd.

Hey Danny,
I just did a review on these babies! They are great aren't they! The only reservation was the ride, I don't think that sounds like Gadds at all...

Congrats man! Always fun getting new cymbals. I really want to pick up a set of those, they seem like great all around cymbals.

i got the ride, i didnt like it at first but i really like it now. its not the steve gadd sound but has its own unique sound. wonder if it will sound more like his over time?

I agree about the Gadd cymbal not really sounding like Gadd....I played one the other day and thought it was nice but not dry enough, and more like a lighter, smaller version of the K Custom.
On the subject of rides, I just (finally) got a K custom dry light and I LOVE IT!

Congrats on the new cymbal! I agree, it's always cool when you get a new one.

I just bought an 18" A-Custom crash (to replace my beloved vintage 18" A-Custom crash that developed a small crack [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img] ) I'm pretty happy with the new one. I think it's a bit thicker than my old one, and kind of sounds like a Sabian Saturation crash.

When I was checking out cymbals, I saw a 16" Session Crash, but I really didn't give it enough of an audition. It seemed nice, but like it wouldn't hold its own in a louder situation. (The 18" might be more robust, but they didn't have any at the time.)

I tried out the new K Custom Special Dry crashes, and those were very nice, but maybe not as versatile as the A-Custom. Maybe next time!!

PS - Since I brought it up.....do any of you have any experience with lathing down a cracked cymbal. That crack in my old 18" A-custom is only about 1/4" long, and its at the edge. I thought I might be able to salvage it if I could lathe 1/2" or so off the outer edge.

I soldered the crack, and it sounds almost as good as new, but the solder usually only holds up for one practice session.
